  • ReferralS!

It's been an exciting week!  Approval Saturday, and then a referral on Tuesday!  We were emailed a picture of a boy and a girl.  We aren't allowed to post the pictures on the internet until we pass court, and that is a few steps away.  So you will have to take my word that they are both heart grabbers.    The boy is 31 months and we are unsure of the exact age of the girl at this point.

For those of you interested, I really want to share the story.    First thing Monday morning I padded down the stairway to turn on the computer.  You see, our phone doesn't turn on unless the computer is on.  Seeing the computer already on, I decide to check my email.  Hmmm.....Someone who also got approval on Saturday has a referral?!  No way!!!  This is reason to wake my Sleeping Handsome aka the Husband!  As the morning progresses, it appears that we aren't getting our referral.  But then, an email appears from our POA in Rwanda congratulating us on our referral!   But we don't have a referral!?   Later that evening our POA assures us that she has seen the referral with her own two eyes and she will have the ministry resend it in the morning.   Prince Charming aka the Husband and I start calculating...."Let's see...Rwanda is 8 hours ahead of us...so..."   So,  I get so tired I go to bed, but at 4:30 I wake up, WIDE awake.  Getting out of bed at 5:15, my dear husband rouses to let me know that as of 2:30 there was no referral.  Time passes on.  It's 1:30p.m in Rwanda, no 2:30, I'm online emailing back and forth with another anxious parent to be waiting on their referral also. Time passes on hour by hour and I'm not getting a lot done with the frequent computer checks.

Then at 9:30 a.m. (5:30p.m. Rwanda)  Steve calls to let me know it has come.  What a precious moment it was seeing these two children for the first time.  We are thankful to the Lord for this blessing and are prayerful that these two will become happy, healthy, bonded members of our family and most of all that they will be part of God's family and servants of Him.

Our travel estimate is to leave Dayton sometime in the month of January.  In the meantime there is much to do.  Thank you for sharing in this with us.

  • Approval!

So, we get home Saturday evening from our Thanksgiving celebration in Michigan, and have a letter from Nyanja, our contact in Rwanda, saying we have been approved.  She sent us a scan of it.  We can't read it very well, but do believe we can see that it is dated in October(!!)  and that we have been approved for two children.

While we are still calculating the math, and thinking we might get our referral in Dec. or Jan. if things go as they have been going, we get another email this morning from Nyanja congratulating us on our referral!  She also asked us to let her know if we haven't received it.  Well, we haven't.  I've been searching all over email and spam, calling our email provider etc.  We are thankful for the news and trust God's perfect timing in all of this.  He's been so good to us.

  • Adoption Update

It's been awhile since Steve or I posted an update, so I am posting one.  April 3 we got the 171H from immigration. Our dossier was shipped that same day to our agency, and from that point forward we are done with our paperwork.    Now the dossier is in Washington D.C. at the Rwandan Embassy.  From there it will go to Rwanda and await approval.   Many ask about time frames, and I will give you a guestimate.

    1. Dossier sent to Rwanda - May
    2. Approval (based on current happenings, though this time could extend out longer) 2-6 months
    3. Referral 4-6 weeks later
    4. Travel 4-6 weeks after referral

Perhaps we will travel to Rwanda sometime between October 2009 and March 2010.   It's all very uncertain - time frames, boy, girl, one or two, baby, toddler... who know?!!

  • Overdue Update, News, etc...

    Hello all,

I have about dropped off of Xanga Land, but wanted to post a quick family update.

Janaya is doing well.  She is growing so much.  She is our little bookworm loving books and letters and the sounds they make.  She does pretty well entertaining herself while I homeschool Josiah, though I do try to include her and spend time with her.  Janaya has a large and growing imaginary family.  The girls are Bask, Pink, Lisa, and Corissa.  The boys are Bear and Fish.  She also has a husband named Stepstool.   Yep, you read that right.  She loves to help me clean and cook. Her newest favorite thing to do is help cut up things using a plastic knife.

Josiah is taking piano lessons and has had a couple of recitals in which he has done well. In the fall he played soccer.  He is growing up so much and learning to be more independent in his school work.  That has been helpful from time to time as life gets busy.  His favorite subject in school is reading.  He likes reading time and likes me reading to him.

Steve and I, though mostly he, spent the fall working on our deck.  It was a mammoth job to clean, prime and stain, but we are thankful it is done and hope to preserve it.   We have enjoyed having family and friends in our home.  We are also thankful for our church home here at Kemp.

Our newest news is that we are starting the adoption process again.  Lord willing, we will adopt from Rwanda, Africa.  We've been talking for quite awhile about adopting again, and we look forward to what God has in store for us.  There is a possibility we may get a sibling group of two, but we will see.  We are not sure how long it will take. It could be 9 to 15 months or it could be quite a bit sooner.  We will see, but already a love for a little unknown chocolate boy or girl is beginning to germinate in our hearts.  If you have a heart to pray for it, pray that my heart and mind will be fixed on the Lord and resting on Him through this time of uncertainty in all the paperwork etc.  I want to keep first things first!

    Melissa
